Cory Schoonover
Senior Project Manager
What I do at Verdantas
My primary roles include senior project manager, environmental scientist and unit manager. We use a wide array of assessment and remediation tools (e.g., risk assessment, engineering controls and institutional controls) to bring brownfield and other impacted sites into production reuse while protecting human health and the environment and meeting client needs.
Seniror Project Manager
I Primarily work as a seniror project manager on environmental assessment and remediation projects, leading and working with a team with other environmental scientists while coordinating the project schedule, budget, and communications with the client and other interested parties (e.g., environmental attorneys, representatives of regulatory agencies).
Environmental Scientist
I work as an environmental scientist, on projects managed by myself and other project managers, overseeing field activities (e.g., site investigation, remedial activities) and preparing key documents to meet project objectives and satisfy regulatory requirements (e.g., work plans, quality assurance plans, site assessment reports, environmental risk assessment reports, health and safety plans).
Unit Manager
I lead a group of environmental scientists, geologists and project managers, working with them to develop skills, gain experience, meet company and project objectives, maintain proactive health and safety practices, produce quality work and achieve career goals.

Who am I?
My career has been entirely within the environmental consulting sector, working in multiple capacities over a period of more than thirty years, including computer aided design, field sampling, construction oversight, data analysis, report preparation and project management. I have been able to work in a supporting or lead capacity in many high-profile, high-value brownfield remediation projects, including sites repurposed as a lakefront luxury condominium complex, a magnet school, a commercial/residential complex adjacent to a baseball stadium and a site remediated for a proposed National Park Service site commemorating the Wright Brothers Airplane Factory.
